Did you know how easily you could grow your own Organic Salads and Herbs at home? Urban farming has been around for a long time, but has become extremely popular over the last few years thanks to peoples interest in clean food.
Companys such as Square Roots is spreading rapidly in bigger cities with the mission to grow vegetables without sunlight in shipping containers and basement facilities using a light spectrum similar to that of the sun. This is a actually a great idea, to reduce the industry of food being shipped by trucks and ships across country and continents. In addition this way of farming will not fail because of weather in such a way as traditional farming can sometimes be. It is environment friendly in many ways. Less pollution from transportation and less chemical preservatives needed. Plants also helps cleaning the surrounding air. With more and more people living closer in cities growing all over the world this seems to be the future of farming. And last but not least, you will be giving your body better and tastier food in comparison to most of the long traveled.
But if you are interested in food and small scale farming, why not grow it yourself? Even if you only have a couple of square-feet to use or just a window sill, you can do it. Start simple and let your ideas make your path. There is plenty of opportunities to grow what you want.
Climate could of course be a limitation if you live somewhere with cold and dark winters. But don’t let it stop you. There is solutions such as heated mini propagation stations, to get your seeds start growing early in advance for summertime.
The truth is, the ingredients and food you have grown by yourself at home has the real taste that can not be compared to something that has been grown far away and sprayed to survive transportation. It is so worth it when you can see something grow and eventually use it in your cooking. You can proudly tell your friends and family how you made it.
Basic things you need to get started.
